Day 7 - One Week Down!

Made it through the first 7 days!  No weight change today.  I kind of did a little back slide on my eating, but I did a lovely fall hike and got 15k steps in.  I hiked instead of eating lunch really, so maybe it still equaled out.  I'm trying trying not to be too rough on myself, and I got out into the woods and just soaked in the nature and that improved my mental health at the very least.

Day 6 - Leaf Peeping (though I don't like the term Leaf Peep)

I really don't love the term "Leaf Peeping."  I feel like I'm an all-season Leaf Appreciator, but this season, seeing the greens drain out of them and leaving behind a myriad of colors, offset with blue sky, or even damp rainy days, just makes for something special.  It makes me glad to be in North Western PA, and glad that I'm a nature girl.

I didn't work out this morning, so I tagged my hiking (and self accountability) buddy Sue, and had her walk with me to meet my son after band and walk home; that got a solid 4 miles.  Total, with the rest of walking to work and back, I topped 18k on steps for the day.  And I'm cooked.  I will sleep solid tonight.  I did get some really nice photos of some of the trees in town that have really changed in the past few days.

Weighed in at 183.8, so there was a little movement on the scale at least.  I need to add some weight and more cardio into my routine, but I'm really trying to take the slow and steady and not burn out approach.

Day off tomorrow!  Weekend means lots of opportunity for adventure, so I'm excited!  Let's hope I don't over-calorie the next few days!

Day 5 - Peak Autumn Color in Western PA

I slept in this morning, and it was really nice.  My weight is unchanged again, but still staying positive!  Walked to work, walked after work, and got 14k steps in.

I walked at the Erie National Wildlife Refuge, and the colors are amazing.  I think we're almost at peak color, and it really is a great time of year to get outside.  I even ran a little bit with the dogs on the hike, to try to get the puppy prepared for trail running.

I'm tracking my calories and have been under the last few days; but I'm also drinking way more water than usual, so I think it'll take a few days for my body to equalize.  I'm hoping this leads to a steadier weight loss.  I feel good, and am sleeping really great, so that's a bonus. My calorie tracker says that if I keep up at the current pace, I'll weigh 173.4 pounds in 5 weeks.  I'll take note of that and see how that goes.

Hoping to get up and run in the morning but if not, I'm not going to beat myself up, and will get miles after work again.  I'll finish the post with some great pictures from my after work hike.

Day 4 - Waking up early and tracking water.

I only hit snooze twice this morning, and was up, had the pets all taken care of and was on the treadmill by 6:15.  I ran 1 mile to warm up and then did some sprints on the treadmill, just go get some intensity this morning.

No weight change this morning, and don't feel like I did a great job on my eating, but I did count all the water I drank, and though I'm at 9 now, I think I'll hit my goal of 12 cups by bedtime.  The app in my Garmin actually adjusts for how much you work out, so it went up from 10, probably with my running and steps I got today.

In total, I got 14.5k steps today, which makes me happy.  I might look into joining one of those online mileage challenges where you get the cheesy medals, but I think they also cost a good chunk of change, depending on the medal, so maybe I'll just hold out for treating myself to a baked good this weekend if I keep up with my goals.

I'm thinking tomorrow will be a "get-up-and-walk-the-pups" in the morning, but if it's nice weather, I might hit a trail tomorrow for an easy hike or run too.

Day 3 - Monday, Monday, can't trust that day...

Weight this morning: 184.4, but I'm not discouraged; just gotta get into a routine!

After work, I met a friend and we walked 3.5 miles, so I made it to 13k steps today.  The cooler weather really motivates me, but it also makes me want to eat pumpkin rolls and drink hot cocoa and hot cider and eat apple pie, or apple crisp, or funnel cake.. ok I'm going to stop now.

Tomorrow, I have to go to doggy school for Ember after work, so I'm hoping I can get up early and work out.

Day 2 - Sunday hiking is good therapy, and good calorie burn!

Got up early this morning to hike with friends at the Kennerdell Tract of the Clear Creek State Forest.  It's my favorite time of the year, with the fall color just starting to bleed into the edges of the greens, and adds a glow to walks in the woods.

Weighed in this morning at 183.6.  I'm tracking my calories, but haven't made any real diet adjustments  yet (one thing at a time).  We hiked 6.2ish miles (10k, woot!), and that combined with mowing and standard Sunday afternoon house chores got me 19k steps for the day!

I felt really good for the entire hike, except the steep half mile we had to go up, but even that wasn't terrible.  It was really good to get out into the woods with good friends, Eli and the pups.

I need to make sure I drink more water when I'm hiking or working out; I was sucking down unsweetened sparkling waters all afternoon, but I am terrible about standard hydration during the days.  I drink herbal tea sometimes, but even if I have a water bottle on my desk in front of me, I don't drink.  I wonder if my smart watch has a "drink water!" notification I could set up once an hour or something... Anyone else have trouble remembering to hydrate?

It's almost 8pm, and I'm going to cuddle up on the couch with the pups and watch the next episode of The Rings of Power.  Walking after work is the plan for tomorrow; maybe walking in the morning as well if I wake up early enough!

Nice and easy hike at one of the prettiest places to hike in Western PA, and it's only about an hour drive.

The ferns are all turning; the pups loved the cooler weather.

Found a lesser traveled trail and it took us to a really neat hemlock area along Dennison Run.

Paused for some photos along the creek, and for a snack break and to dunk the pups.

Puppy Dunking!

The colors are starting; by next week, they'll be amazing.

Not much color at the overlook; I bet it'll look much different in a week or two.

Tiff gets Fit; Day 1. October 1, 2022 - Starting from the beginning, again

This is not the first time I've wanted to get in better shape.  It seems to be a human struggle to go forward and backwards in fitness.  I have a hundred excuses; work is busy; I got a puppy; I want to make sure I'm doing things with my son; I really really like cake; I'd rather just hike a mile then run or work out; and they go on and on.

But it's time to work on it, and I think, I need to make myself accountable to me, and maybe anyone else that might tune in to see what I'm doing.

I'd like this blog to be a record of my journey.  My big point in time goal is a 50 mile race next October; about a year from now.  My other goal is to just build a new relationship and routine with working out and eating better and try to have a better health goal for myself as I get older.  I don't really mind how I look.  I would like my clothes to fit better.  I would like to be able to read about a 50k race happening and sign up, or go on a backpacking trip without feeling like I'm going to burst something on the uphills.

So if you don't want to read my honest and probably sometimes rough go of it, that's ok, just keep on clicking the links.

Laying it out:  I would like to do at least the following: Either a) run 1 mile a day b)walk at least 2 miles (if I didn't run) c)bike at least 5 miles (if I didn't walk or run).

I would also like to shoot for walking 10k steps a day.  Low goal would be 8k, high goal would be 14k.

Current Weight: 185.2 pounds.  Weight Goal - I don't really have a set goal - 10 pounds would be a great start, 20-30 would be my goal by the time I run my race next year.

So today, I got up and ran on the treadmill, 5k.  The puppy training partner was not amused.  It's about 8 at night, and I also got 15k steps in, and I did some digging and gardening, so I got a little extra exercise in.

I know this isn't going to be easy, but I'm excited to at least journal this for myself, and if anyone else reads and gets even a little bit motivated too, that's a happy bonus.  Here's to getting back to it!

Not exactly trail running, but looking at you-tube forest scenery and listening to a podcast was ok for motivation.

It's a start!

My training partner was not impressed.
